culture & community

work

Over the past decade, I have engaged in various community work across cultures from Australia, Taiwan, Thailand to Germany, as part of my research, teaching, language work, and social contribution.

Promoting Taiwanese Culture
Berlin, Germany
2025 – present

I have been actively engaging in the Berlin-based Taiwanese community to support and promote Taiwanese culture, including volunteering with Taiwan Film Festival Berlin, selling homemade food at Taiwan Kulturtag by Impression Taiwan, and hosting a calligraphy workshop as part of a Moon Festival event by TCML Taiwanherz Berlin.

Chinese Calligraphy & Craft Workshops
Kamnoetvidya Science Academy (KVIS), Thailand
2022-2024

During my years teaching at KVIS, I held multiple cultural events as part of the Chinese as a Third Language course, including calligraphy and craft workshops to celebrate relevant cultural holidays. I also initiated and advised a calligraphy club to promote this particular form of art.

Outreach Programs in Local Elementary and Middle Schools in Pa Yup Nai
Kamnoetvidya Science Academy (KVIS), Thailand
2022-2024

As part of our school’s dedication to giving back to society, I co-advised student-led initiatives to teach English and Chinese, as well as Healthcare and Life Skills, at a number of elementary and middle schools in our community in Pa Yup Nai, Rayong Province. In addition to advising on students’ content and teaching, my role also required communication and coordination with the corresponding authorities.

Artist Navin Rawanchaikul’s Fieldwork in Mae Salong
StudiOK, Thailand
September 2022

Derived from my main role as a translator and editor for the artist’s writings, my responsibilities also included close collaborations with the studio’s videographer in subtitling, cultural consulting, and content-related research. Since my work required profound understandings of the artist’s artistic practice and ideology and close communications with the artist and his team, participation in fieldwork helped immensely (incl. Akha Swing Festival, interviews with locals, visits to the Martyrs’ Memorial Hall).

布可能不繪-明德彩繪計畫
Community Painting Program in Nihunpu, Xinyi Township
Nihunpu Cultural Development Center & HMT 你好明天, Taiwan
October 2021

I volunteered with HMT, an NGO dedicated to youth education and community building, to participate its collaboration with the community painting program led by local Bunun youths. My role involved co-living and close communication with the community, allowing me to have a deeper understanding of the community’s efforts and challenges in cultural development, education, and preservation.

Australian Indigenous Languages
2017-2019

While pursuing my Master of Applied Linguistics degree at the University of Melbourne, I volunteered at Living Languages (formerly RNLD), an NGO dedicated to Indigenous language revitalisation and relevant linguistic work.

I also worked as a research assistant for the Research Unit for Indigenous Language (RUIL), where part of my responsibilities was to help create linguistics content for The Linguistics Roadshow.

My graduate thesis tapped into materials development for Australian Indigenous language learner’s guides in a community-based approach.
