As a Master of Applied Linguistics graduate from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and a former English/Mandarin teacher at Kamnoetvidya Science Academy (KVIS), Thailand, my expertise includes language acquisition and pedagogy, academic writing, TESOL and TCSOL, cross-cultural communication, and learner-centered materials development.

English Writing & Proficiency Tests
  • Academic Writing:
    My expertise lies in teaching English as a Second Language learners how to approach academic writings, including university essays and research manuscripts.
  • Creative Writing:
    I guide and advise students in their endeavor to craft non-academic, creative writings, including the inaugural school magazine of KVIS, Tagazine (2024), and the Chloe Wanka project (2023) as part of the Creative Writing course.
  • English Proficiency Tests:
    I am experienced in guiding and assisting students with their preparation for standardized proficiency tests (listening, reading, writing, and speaking), including IELTS, TOEFL, and SAT.
University Admission
  • Highly experienced in guiding students to identify their strengths and goals and to further craft strong and unique personal statements, portfolios, CVs, SOPs, and other application related essays, I am also able to provide insightful advice and editing services to cater to each individual’s needs.
  • In my former role on the KVIS College Preparation Committee and further beyond, I have assisted more than 70 high school students with successful admissions to top universities in the UK (e.g., Oxford), the US (e.g., University of Illinois), Singapore (e.g., NTU, NUS), Korean (e.g., KAIST), Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and more.
Mandarin Chinese as a Second Language (TCSOL)
  • My curriculum design is learner-centered and task-based, catering to learners’ needs and promoting authentic, contextualized language.
  • Culturally relevant content is highly emphasized, for which I would design activities such as crafting, calligraphy, and mahjong workshops.
  • I am experienced in facilitating and creating materials for cross-cultural language exchange programs.

My collaboration with Japanese high school English teacher George Komori aims to create real-life opportunities for students to practice listening and speaking while learning about foreign cultures. We also tap into topics of English learning in general and standardized English proficiency tests (e.g., EIKEN).

The seminar focused on two major topics of discussion: 1) technology in teaching Mandarin Chinese 科技輔助華語教學 and 2) using students’ language to teach language 用學生的語言教語言.

Abstract: The current generation of young students are digital natives, more familiar with digital communication than ever. This change in communication media has no doubt brought very different dynamics to language learning and teaching. How can we adjust our curriculum to make it more relevant? How can we communicate with students to meet their learning needs?
